MoonArra, meaning three streams is about our individual journeys and explorations in world fusion music. Through our many encounters over the years, we shared and exchanged rich and diverse influences from early pop, folk, jazz , rock and Indian Classical styles. Prakash Sontakke has a rich Hindustani Music background, Karthik Mani comes from a strong Carnatic music tradition, Jagadeesh M.R and Madhuri from pop, rock and jazz influences and Wilson Kenneth from playing bass with funk and classic rock bands. The idea for MoonArra started taking shape when we discovered that our musical expressions could blend or ‘fuse’, creating an entirely new sound. We also added the drone of the ‘thampura’ to give it a distinct identity.
Besides playing in Indian music festivals such as the Fete De la Musique, Bengaluru Habba and the Indigo & Blues Jazz festivals, the ‘MoonArra sound’ caught the attention of international jazz festivals overseas such as the international jazz festivals overseas such as the Java Jazz festival 2009, Indonesia and the Bangkok Jazz festival 2010, Thailand.
MoonArra has just launched its first album "Indian Accent" - a culmination of our ideas, our passions and experiences. This is a sound representing the new India in a globally changing world.
We believe that as we journey along, our collaborations with great artists and musicians across the globe will only make this fusion richer, stronger and the songs more meaningful.
